Once again the Muhlenberg and Swarthmore womens basketball teams played a game
Much like first meeting, the Mules (9-12, 5-9) trailed at halftime, but once again fought back to make it a game. Trailing 61-53 with 3:14 to play, Muhlenberg held Swarthmore (13-7, 9-5) to only one field goal in the remaining minutes as the Mules went on a game-ending 8-2 run. Four free throws by junior Stephanie Coluccini (career-high 15 rebounds), and back-to-back baskets by junior Kristen Piscadlo (seven points, seven assists) and junior Lacie Smith (17 points, seven rebounds) put the Mules down by two with 52 seconds left, but neither team would score the rest of the way. A Swarthmore missed foul shot, and two fouls on the Garnet put Muhlenberg at the free throw line with only one second remaining, still down by two points. The Mules missed the first free throw, and after calling timeout, intentionally missed the second free throw, but Swarthmore grabbed the rebound. Junior Tiffany Kirk added 14 points in the losing effort for the Mules, and senior Gwen Doyle made three three-pointers, giving her 53 on the season, tying the single-season team record that she set a year ago. She has now made a three-point field goal in 50 consecutive games. |
