Bissinger is a 1995 graduate of Hampden-Sydney, where he was a Division III All-America midfielder as a senior. Following his graduation, Bissinger stayed on to serve a year as an assistant coach. After a stint in the business world, he returned to his alma mater in 1999. The last five seasons, Bissinger served as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Tigers, who earned three straight bids to the NCAA Tournament from 2001 to 2003. Hampden-Sydney was ranked third in the final 2002 regular-season poll and reached the NCAA quarterfinals in 2003. Bissinger takes over a Muhlenberg program that is aspiring to reach those levels. Mens lacrosse was reinstated as a varsity sport in 2003, and the Mules won five games in each of their first two seasons. Dave Cornell, who coached the team both years, left Muhlenberg in November to become an assistant at Notre Dame. I consider it Muhlenbergs good fortune to have been able to attract Coach Bissinger to our program, remarked Sam Beidleman, director of athletics. I am confident his skills, knowledge, leadership and character will continue the development of our lacrosse program and contribute in many ways to the life of the College. |
