UPPERWEIGHTS LEAD WRESTLERS AT NORTH/SOUTH DUALS
The shorthanded Muhlenberg wrestling team went 1-3 at the North/South Duals, hosted by Ursinus. The Mules (2-4) were without two of their top wrestlers, who sat out with injuries, and forfeited at least two classes in every match. In Muhlenbergs second match, the upperweights all won in the final three bouts for a come-from-behind 24-21 victory against Western New
In both of Muhlenbergs dual-meet wins this season, the Mules trailed 21-18 going into the final bout but got a win with bonus points to capture the match. Those three wrestlers also won their bouts against Wesleyan. Hesse added a pin for Muhlenbergs lone win in a contested bout in the Trinity match. In their final match, the Mules were blanked, 56-0, by 17th-ranked Johnson & Wales. |
Late Blitz Sends Mens Basketball to Defeat
The Gettysburg mens basketball team turned a close game into a runaway down the stretch and sent Muhlenberg to its first Centennial Conference loss of the season, 82-68. The Mules (6-5, 3-1) cut a lead that had been as much as 11 points in the first half to one when sophomore Jeff Stewart hit a three-pointer to make the score 45-44 with 12:37 left in the game. Muhlenberg twice had the ball with a chance to take the lead, but turned it over both times. The Mules still trailed by only three points, 52-49, when Stewart converted a layup at the 10-minute mark, but they would not make another shot for another six minutes. The Bullets (5-6, 2-2) went on a 17-3 run during that span to open up a commanding 17-point lead. Gettysburg shot 57.7 percent 68.4 percent on two-pointers against a Muhlenberg defense that held its previous three opponents under 40 percent. Stewart had a huge game, scoring 24 points and hitting all three of his three-point attempts. He scored 16 of the Mules 36 second-half points. |
