Sophomore Matt Loesch opened the match with a pin at 197. He had a 4-0 lead and over four minutes in riding-time advantage when he finally flattened his opponent with 59 seconds left in the third period. Loesch has now won 18 in a row in dual matches and leads the Mules with an 18-3 record. |
The Muhlenberg wrestling team made a bid to defeat Kings for the
first time in 14 years before eventually falling, 29-15.
The Mules (4-8), who hadnt scored more than 13 points against the Monarchs since last defeating them in 1990-91, were tied 15-15 before the visitors captured the final three bouts. Freshmen picked up three of Muhlenbergs four wins, two of them in close matches. At 141, Joseph DeCampo scored a two-point near-fall early in the second period and entered the third with a 2-1 lead and 52 seconds in riding time. He chose the top position and held his opponent down for 11 seconds, earning the riding-time point that gave him a 3-2 win when neither wrestler scored the rest of the way. Brian Saval, competing against the Monarchs leader in wins, was the victim of an early five-point move. He was within 6-3 by the end of the first period, then registered a four-point move in the final 20 seconds of the second period to take an 8-6 lead. A takedown with 23 seconds to go in the match cemented the 10-6 victory, his 11th of the season. |
