MITCHELL BACK AT NCAAs, BGOSH
Sarah Mitchell will try to become the first member of the
Muhlenberg track and field program to earn multiple All-America honors
outdoors when she competes in the
javelin at the NCAA Division III Championships, hosted by the University
of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, tomorrow.
Mitchell finished seventh as a junior last year, making history as the
Mules
first female All-American in track and field. She was seeded 14th
but uncorked a school- and personal-record throw of 142-2 to qualify
for the finals. This year, Mitchell goes in seeded seventh in a field of
18, having broken her own record with a mark of 145-4.
I guess its more pressure when youre going in like
this, said
Mitchell. But Coach always tells us that if you throw how did to get
in, youll be fine. Im confident because I threw what I did to
qualify at the end of the season, not at the beginning. Ive been
getting progressively better.
Mitchell, the lone Mule to qualify for the national meet, finished first
in the javelin at five outdoor meets in 2007, including the Centennial
Conference Championships, where she was named Most Outstanding Performer
for field events. She won the javelin four straight years at the CC meet.
