The Mules captured their first Centennial Conference championship since 2001, the first year the conference sponsored womens golf, finishing 30 strokes ahead of five-time defending champion McDaniel. Their 36-hole total of 724 was the second best in CC history, 10 strokes off McDaniels 2004 score. Its a great experience to win the championship and a nice way to end my career, said senior Kristen Amore, who tied for eighth with a two-day score of 185. Freshman Kimberly Snyder earned medalist honors by shooting a 162
Snyder, who shot a 76 in the first round, was struggling with her putting on the second day before getting a taste of success on the 13th hole. I kind of lost my composure for a while, she explained. Coach gave me a bag of cookies, and then I made a birdie and was even par the rest of the way. Despite her pre-cookie troubles, Snyder tied for the best score in the second round with junior Dana Lynn Bielecki, whose second-round 86 enabled her to finish in fourth place for the second year in a row. Bielecki was one of only two golfers to improve her score from the first round to the second, thanks to a longer course and windy conditions. I knew today was going to play tougher, said Amore. But I was confident. I knew someone was going to have to play unbelievable to beat us. Joining Snyder, Bielecki and Amore on the championship squad were sophomore Hayley Cush and senior Laura Fazio. Our two seniors were really looking forward to a conference championship, remarked Snyder. Im glad I was able to contribute to it. |
